Recently we had Kevin and Sean, the guys who founded DealFlicks, stop by the theater on their way to Canada. After seeing what they do at DealFlicks we signed up Central Cinema. All summer we will be offering Summer Matinee Madness of 3-for-1 admission to our weekend matinees all the way through September. Now you can duck out of the sun for an air conditioned break at the movies and bring two friends along for free. What a nice way to split a pitcher! Check out our theater page on DealFlicks and score some sweet deals.
We now have matinee showtimes on Saturdays and Sundays. What could be better on a rainy cold winter afternoon? It started with the Seahawks games and the Dr. WHO event during the day, then it seemed to make sense to keep it rolling with movies on the weekends too. Now we have 3:00 matinees scheduled unless there is a special event. December is pretty busy with events so we could only squeeze in The Nightmare Before Christmas at 3:00 on Dec 7th, ELF at 3:00 on Dec 21st, and When Harry Met Sally at 3:00 on the 28th. January has matinees nearly every weekend. Now you can still catch your favorite movies in the theater even if you have other plans for the evening.
We are on our way to a major upgrade to the projection capabilities here at the Cinema. The major movie studios are starting to only release movies in DCP format which requires a specific kind of system to show them with. The DCP spec also looks really great on the screen so the quality of our shows will improve nicely too. The equipment costs some serious money so we have started a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to get this installed. We have some great deals on movies and events at different funding levels. If you come to the movies a lot then you can save some money by buying your tickets upfront, and it will help us to make the shows that much better. Go check out what this upgrade means to us on our Kickstarter page and help us get there.
Since most of us are not pulling down hedge-fund manager style bonuses, we thought it would be fun to do something crazy fun and nice on the wallet. We have introduced 99-cents nights where the last show of some movie we like will be on super-sale. The first one is tonight for Empire Records at 9:30 and the next one is Howard the Duck on Wednesday May 1st. Both are popular movies but we just wanted to do something silly as we close the runs of these shows. Keep your eyes peeled for more of these nights. We are planning on breaking out the bargain movies a couple of times per month. It’ll be a flashback to when you were thirteen and going to the $1 matinees, except it’s at night now and you might not remember thirteen…. Anyway you like it, enjoy the savings as now you will have more cash for beer!
We have two stellar movies that are starting at Central Cinema this week!
Friday and Saturday night at 7:30pm is NIGHT OF THE HUNTER.*
$6 advance/ $8 day of show
“Get your state troopers out here. I got something trapped in my barn.”
The 1955 film, NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, is a nightmarish journey into the darkness of a man’s soul and the light that shines from one woman’s spirit. Famed actor, Charles Laughton, directed only one film and if you are going to only direct one film it should be as good as NIGHT OF THE HUNTER!
With a cast led by Robert Mitchum as a preacher who isn’t as God lovin’ as he pretends and Lillian Gish as a widow out to protect the innocent, NIGHT OF THE HUNTER turns into a deadly cat and mouse game of startlingly results.
With Shelley Winters as the put upon mother of two, NIGHT OF THE HUNTER is a classy thriller that remains timeless and still absolutely horrifying.
This Friday and Saturday at 9:30pm.*
Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN
$6 advance/ $8 day of show
Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN (AND YOUR MOTHER TOO!) is a dream road trip! Sex, drugs, more sex and having to grow up all await two best friends who hitch a ride with a sexy Maribel Verdu to a secluded beach called Boca del Cielo, translated as Heaven’s Mouth. The problem now is that no beach really exist and two boys have fallen head over heels in love with their arousing travel companion. Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN is an unrated lusty tale of coming of age and having to remember that what happens at the pool stays at the pool.
This groundbreaking and mesmerizing film launched the Hollywood careers of not only the two leads, Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, but also that of the director, Alfonso Cuaron.
So take a break from the overcast Seattle weather and travel south of the border for a road trip you will never forget!

Yes it is a whole new look here at the CC website. We are always working on ways to make things better and finally we managed to squeak out the time for a full website overhaul and conversion to WordPress. Just like Portlandia, the future of the past is now. Soon we will be modernizing all of the show info for you with lots of handy robots. Now the site also looks great on your phone. It is pretty fun to dig through all of the possible website add ons and find the things that are cool without junking up the experience too much. Look for little improvements to work their way into the experience over the near future. Let us know what you like and if there is something you think would make it so much better.
See you at the show!
